A 2023 study conducted by the Manufacturing Institute – the workforce development and education affiliate of the National Association of Manufacturers – and PwC revealed that the frontline employee experience is crucial in attracting and retaining highly skilled team members, particularly in the current competitive labor market. To further delve into this topic, in partnership with PwC, the MI is conducting another survey to study the influence frontline leaders have on the employee experience and identify the future skills needed to address tomorrow’s business challenges. This research aims to find strategies for frontline leaders to enhance employee satisfaction, reducing attrition and absenteeism. In this survey we define a frontline leader as a salaried employee who holds an operational leadership position and is responsible for overseeing or managing the operations on the production line and either directly, or indirectly, has hourly frontline workers report to them. Examples of a frontline leader include Production Supervisor, shift Leader, Manufacturing Team Leader.
